Advances In Radar Level Measurement For Coal Power Applications

Recent developments in high frequency radar sensors have enabled much more reliable level measurement for coal in very dusty applications. Over the past ten years radar has become an acceptable, superior and cost effective technology to previous methods. The availability of very high frequency devices has substantially enhanced reliability in difficult applications. In addition, developments in intelligent sensors have simplified start-up and commissioning but proper location and installation still remain critical to successful operation. This paper reviews the progress of radar technology in level, its application in coal power operations, and covers proper guidelines for usage and maintenance.
