THE SCHOOL'S SPACE TECHNOLOGY SYMPOSIUM

The Schools Space Technology Symposium is a school-based academic conference in which students from years 5-12 can present to their peers a paper about a space-related project they have completed, or are undertaking. The Schools Space Technology Symposium aims to inspire school students to take up further studies in science, mathematics and engineering. It provides a vehicle through which such students and their teachers can meet and network with others with similar interests, and ensures that such groups and individuals are not working in isolation. The Symposium provides a means by which to identify and monitor the progress of students who display outstanding ability in this field. Following the first Schools Space Technology Symposium, held at Arndell Anglican College on October 15th 2003, one such student has already been identified, and is currently working on a project for presentation at the second Symposium to be held on October 14th 2004. This event also provides students with an opportunity to embark on a research project in late primary school, or early high school, and follow it through until they graduate, presenting to their peers at yearly intervals. Two such projects will be discussed. The Schools Space Technology Symposium has initiated the development of a community of space- interested and active students and teachers.
