Spatial analysis capabilities are required when designing spatial data quality assurance routines. Such capabilities are required for instance for multi-stage sampling or in the cost optimisation of sampling schemes. For the improvement of data production systems, methods based on experimental design are proposed. To implement such methods, an extended spatial algebra is required. This spatial algebra should be able to handle raster layers where vectors and relations are basic data types. In this paper, such an algebra for quality assurance routines is described. The algebra is based on an extension of the raster paradigm, in such a way that each pixel can be represented by a data structure.
