In this study the strain energy function of hyperelastic class of St Venant-Kirchhoff materials is evolved to cover elastic-plastic solids undergoing finite deformation with isotropic hardening. The equation of motion of acceleration waves in elastic-plastic solids is used and certain terms in this equation relevant to the constitutive equations are obtained in view of the specific energy function. The speeds of propagation of acceleration waves in elastic-plastic St Venant-Kirchhoff materials are derived considering both the von Mises and the Tresca yield criteria.
