In the framework of the project SWAN (Shallow Water Acoustic Network) partly funded by the European Community MAST III, DUNE has the responsibility of studying the channel equalization to combat the multipath. The project objective is to advance shallow water coherent communication networking techniques, especially those concerning the fast self-start and self-recovery capability in a quickly changing transmission channel. Within this project we have developed an efficient blind equalization procedure for the acoustic channels. This procedure is based on the exploitation of the information achieved by temporal oversampling of the signal, and spatial diversity achieved by using many receivers.
