The pool of qualified pilots is shrinking and is projected to continue shrinking for several years. Many small carriers and corporate aviation departments have selection systems that are not completely appropriate for this environment. In this paper we describe four additions to a selection system that can help identify the most appropriate candidates while helping to contain the costs of both the selection and the training systems. Most of these changes involve minimal development costs and provide additional protection against legal actions. These changes can be implemented at companies that conduct their own training or use contract training services.
