Evolution in gas propulsion: LPG and Ethane as marine fuel

TGE Marine was selected to supply a large number of LNG fuel gas systems and is now goingthe next step towards alternative fuels. For the worlds LPG fleet, the growing Ethane fleet, butalso for other applications ethane and LPG are another vital link to environmental friendlyfuels. The paper looks into newly designed Ethane fuel gas system and LPG fuel gas system.- The new design of the ethane fuel gas system for an Ethane carrier which is currentlyconverted will be presented as a case study.- TGE Marine developed a dedicated LPG fuel supply system which conditions and feeds LPGto the newest dual fuel MAN ME-LGI main engine generation.This paper describes the challenges to upgrade an operating LNG fuel gas system from LNGmode to ethane mode and in addition the paper will present a new solution of an LPG fuelsupply system. It will look into the design basis, process and the critical innovations, requiredto fulfill the requirements by the engine. Based on the first mover application of ethane as fueland ongoing LPG fuel projects the paper will expand on the possibilities of these fuels for thegeneral marine market.
