An experimental study was performed to determine the effect of Mo in Si-Mn Nb Bearing TRIP steels, essentially as a partial replacement for Si. Three steel compositions were investigated. Bainite transformation conditions were investigated on the retained austenite characteristics and final mechanical properties. Results revealed that Mo has a strong solute drag effect, consequently retarding the ferrite and pearlite transformations. The Mo bearing steel (with lowered Si level) generated excellent mechanical properties (as high as: UTS=1269 MPa, T.El.=35.9percent) in the range of those (i.e. no Mo, standard Si level) observed by previous investigators.
