The accurate estimation of power production is fundamental to ensuring a solar system is operating correctly. It is also essential to assure the lenders and investors financing the project that the debt will be repaid and expected returns will be achieved, and to assure smooth integration of solar resources on to the grid. In the wind industry, for example, this has been accomplished through regression techniques applied to plots of power production as a function of wind speed. This methodology has not yet been widely used in the solar sector. This paper evaluates whether a linear regression methodology can be used to predict power output in solar, identifies key variables in this regression, and assesses the accuracy of the regression. Amonix CPV systems were used to test and validate the methodology.
