As the application of the distributed embedded system grows, the reliability of its communication software attracts more attention. In order to improve the reliability of the communication software in embedded real-time systems, this paper presents a CAN bus-based hierarchical design of the communication program, in which the CAN communication module is divided into two layers, one for the driving of the CAN controller, and the other for the CAN application layer based on the CANopen. This delaminated, modularized and standardized program design increases the reuse of codes, improves the reliability of the communication software in embedded real-time system, and at the same time promotes the standardization of the CAN devices. The design has been applied to three-phase AC motor soft-start controller, and has yielded good results.
