In this paper an analysis of the noise acoustic climate characterizing the urban area of Villa San Giovanni (Italy) is presented. The investigation has involved the experimental measurement of the main indexes for noise pollution and specifically the A-weighted continuous equivalent sound level L_(eq) and the cumulative statistical levels L_(10), L_(50), L_(90). Contemporarily, traffic fluxes data of five vehicle classes have been taken. The survey has been carried out in 14 measurement sites selected to adequately represent the different areas of the municipal territory on the basis of an acoustical zoning proposed by the same authors. Collected data, compared with the threshold limits fixed by the rule in action, point out the inadequacy of the actual road network and suggest the need of urgent and suitable actions of urban planning.
