UK Marine Renewable Atlas

In September 2003, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) commissioned a consortium to produce an Atlas of thernUK Marine Renewable Energy Resources. This consortium comprises four leading UK organisations in marinernscience and offshore wind energy, namely:rn? ABP Marine Environmental Research Ltd;rn? Garrad Hassan & Partners Ltd;rn? Met Office; andrn? Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory.rnThe purpose of the Atlas is to quantify and spatially map the potential wave, tidal and offshore wind resource at arnregional scale across the limits of the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS). The Atlas is designed to provide a usefulrnreference of regionally based information to assist decision makers in licensing future rounds of offshore marinernrenewable technologies. The Atlas has been built from the best source of wave, tide and offshore wind informationrnpresently available across the UKCS.rnThis work falls within the DTI’s Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) combined programme covering Oil & Gasrnand Marine Renewable agendas, a programme managed by Geotek and in association with Hartley Anderson. Thernwork is now completed and has been issued to DTI in the form of a set of primary A3 colour resource maps (thern'Atlas'), a detailed technical report1 and the compiled resource parameters in the form of a structured GeographicalrnInformation System.
