Fire occurring indoor environment such as subway andrnunderground cannot be easily extinguished because smokerncomes from indoor prevent a fire-fighter from seeing thernscene of a fire. Mostly, many victims occur for fire indoor.rnIn addition, fire occurring in outdoor environment such asrnan oil station also cannot be easily extinguished because bigrnflames prevent a fire-fighter from going close to the scene ofrna fire. Therefore, some robots should be developed forrnrapidly and safely extinguishing fire occurring in indoor andrnoutdoor for fire-fighters. Moreover, some robots are neededrnfor urban search and rescue. Area collapsed due to fire,rnearthquake, and explosion has narrow spaces. Unfortunately,rnmany human victims exist in these narrow spaces. Rescuernwork could not be easily due to the narrow space and therndanger of collapse. So a small robot is needed for rapidlyrnsearching human victim. Finally, for perceiving the disasterrnand sending the information, hovering robot is needed forrndisaster surveillance.rnThis paper introduces the present state in Korea ofrndisaster-mitigation and life-saving robotics technology.rnMany researchers study on disaster-mitigation and lifesavingrnrobot technology actively in Korea. Among disastermitigationrnand life-saving robot, indoor and outdoor firefightingrnrobots, urban search and rescue robot, hoveringrnrobot for surveillance is introduced in this paper.
