Tetrahexahedral silver sulfide nanoparticles are synthesized in the present paper and are applied to promote sensitivity of the silver halide (AgX) microcrystals. The Ag2S particles received and identified by TEM are 2-5 nm. As a novel chemical sensitizer, the sensitometric properties of the nanoparticles are studied. The sensitizer shows superior to the traditional sodium thiosulfate sensitizer. When use it to sensitize different AgX microcrystals emulsions, the tetrahexahedral sensitizer shows better effect of sensitization in the octahedral emulsion. The result indicate that the tetrahexahedral sensitizer has higher sensitizing reactivity on the {111} faces of microcrystals and also suggest a possible relationship between the effect of sensitization and the shapes of the sensitizer particles.
