Estimating the reliable output of wells

Estimating the reliable outputs of wells can be complicated because of the large number of variables that need to be taken into account. These variables relate to the characteristics of both the source and the aquifer. A methodology has been developed for estimating reliable outputs of water wells in the UK. This methodology includes a number of options depending on the complexity of the source and the amount of data available. The preferred option is based on a study of the operational history of the source, especially during periods of stress caused by drought. The methodology is compared for two contrasting aquifer types, the Chalk and the Sherwood Sandstone.
