PREDICTING PERFORMANCE OF A SPACECRAFT DEVELOPMENT TEAM USING TEAMING THEORY

The scope of this research was to evaluate the ability to predict team performance based upon Team versus Working Group characteristics from Katzenbach and Smith (Katzenbach and Smith, 1993) adherence to particular teaming characteristics presented by Larson and LaFasto (Larson and LaFasto, 1989) and assessment of the level of Dysfunction based on Lencioni's (Lencioni, 2002) work. Observational data was collected and analyzed for three integrated product teams competing for the superior design of a Spacecraft. The data analysis was used to compare and rate each team's relative performance in the competition. This ranking based on observational data was compared to the rankings by the competition panel of expert judges. Discussion of the comparisons is included.
