A thermogravimetric study was performed to investigate the patterns of TG and plots for a volatile oil. Peppermint oil was taken as the model volatile oil. The experimental variables chosen were crimped crucibles with and without pinhole, heating rates of 2℃/min and 3℃/min and atmospheres of nitrogen and air. The results were analysed based on baseline establishment and peak resolution. The results indicated that a crimped crucible without a pinhole, an atmosphere of nitrogen and a heating rate of 3℃/min are the ideal set of conditions for the optimum TG analysis of peppermint oil.
