Significant improvements in the mechanical and physical properties such as strength, toughness and stiffness can be achieved in metal-matrix composites(MMCs) over that of the matrix material. The 6061 Aluminium alloy based metal-matrix composite have been widely used in aerospace, automobile and other industries making use of these advantages. However, aluminium alloy based MMCs have some disadvantages as a result of the incorporation of reinforcements, one of which is their low ductility. It produces a lot of problems in the forming process and limits their widespread applications. In this study, a processing schedule that produces MMCs with a good distribution of reinforcements and resultant fine grain size was obtained, and consequently, good superplastic properties, in particular, high strain rate Superplasticity, were achieved.
