As the number of jobs increases in Huntsville, added to the fact of the impending retirement of the baby boomer generation, employee retention and limiting employee turnover will be crucial for local high-tech Huntsvi'ie companies over the next decade. This paper evaluates different managerial motivational techniques that can be used in order to motivate employees and keep them energized and wanting to stay where they are currently employed. A methodology for examining several different theories on how to motivate and keep workers happy is examined which includes going back to the theories of Abraham Maslow and Frederick Herzberg. The different theories reveal possible options to companies so they can limit their turnover. The theories are presented in a way to provide the initial framework companies can use to better retain employees. It is evident that the theories developed in the twentieth century by the likes of Maslow, Herzberg, and Adams still have relevance today in motivating workers.
