Due to growing demand for airrntransportation, airport noise can be reasonablyrnexpected to increase. This, coupled with anrnincreasing awareness of airport noise issues,rnsuggests that the number and restrictiveness ofrnnoise regulations will increase. Noisernregulations affect airlines, and compel them tornalter their operations to minimize the impact ofrnthe regulations on their operating cost. Thernmain operational changes for airlines are thernnetwork of airports they service (networkrntopology), and the fleet utilization to service thisrnnetwork.rnThis paper presents a framework to studyrnthe impacts of noise regulations on the networkrntopology and direct operating costs for airlines.rnThe study uses this framework to examine fourrntypes of noise regulations, and compares therneffectiveness, advantages, and disadvantages ofrnthese regulations on airlines from 2008 to 2015.
