The device has an amplifier chain (29) for amplifying incident pulse to a higher energy level with threshold energy to cause a phenomenon of filamentation. The amplifier chain comprises a drawing device (22) for temporally stretching the incident pulse. A gain medium (23) amplifies the stretched pulse. A compressor (24) compresses the amplified pulse temporally such that pulse duration of the amplified pulse is compressed equal to that of the incident pulse. The chain is provided with control units (25, 26) to control distance from which the phenomenon of filamentation starts.
