OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE FOR FEDERAL BUILDINGS: CAPTURING THE POTENTIAL

The verdict is in: Improved operations and maintenance (O&M) offers significant energy and cost savings opportunities. It is conservatively estimated that O&M improvements in Federal facilities could result in a 10% reduction in energy use. But simply identifying this opportunity is not enough. If these opportunities are to be captured, Federal agency O&M needs must be strategically addressed. This paper summarizes the past and planned efforts of the Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) to work with Federal agencies in developing an O&M Program that will realize both energy savings and facilities operations improvements.
