The device has an activation unit (4) adapted to increase, in absolute value, electrical potential of an active part of a lightning capturing unit (2). The activation unit is formed by a voltage generator (41) that is connected to all or part of conductor elements (22). The activation unit is adapted to place the active part at an electrical potential different from electrical potential of the atmosphere so as to generate an activation voltage between the active part and environment of the active part. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for protecting against lightning (2) a method for fabricating a protection device.
