the energy consumption of Oxygen plants is mainly determined by technological considerations i.e. the operating air pressure and the extent of heat integration achieved in the process. Modern oxygen plants have specific energy consumption figures lower than 1 kWh/m~3 of oxygen compared to older plants with figures of more than 2 kWh/m~3. This has been made possible mainly by changes in process design, which has facilitated the use of lower air pressures of 35 to 60 kg/cm~2g, while the older designs required about 150 kg/ cm~2g. We highlight here some measures that can be useful for reducing the energy consumption further.
