摘要

In order to clarify the cryoprotective effect of carboxylated poly-L-lysine (PLL), we investigated freezingrnbehavior and freezing survival of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans in the presence of PLL. In thernabsence of PLL, all the nematodes became frozen and did not survive. However, some nematodes remainedrnunfrozen in 20% PLL solution, and 26% of the total nematodes survived after thawing. The synergistic effectrnof PLL and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) or ethylene glycol (EG) were then investigated, where 5% PLL wasrndissolved in M9 buffer containing 5% DMSO or 5% EG. Survival rates after freeze-thawing of the nematodernin 5% DMSO or 5% EG solution were 82% or 69%, respectively. By the addition of both PLL and DMSO orrnEG, on the other hand, survival rates were increased to 87% and 74%, respectively.
