PROSPECTS AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR BIOGAS AND AUTOGAS DRIVEN VEHICLES

This paper involves an investigation of a number of biofuel car models specifically regarding fuel costrnsavings and engine considerations. A fuel cost comparison was carried out, using various fuel types including LPG,rnCNG/CBG and Petrol. The comparisons depended on a number of factors including fuel economy, fuel cost per unitrnand driving range ability of assessed vehicles. Among the major findings were: the fuel savings for an Opel AdamrnLPG vehicle versus a petrol version were found to be 45.6% while the savings for an Opel Zafira CNG/CBG vehiclesrnversus petrol were 45.8%. An added benefit in the case of CBG fuelled engine is a significant reduction of harmfulrnemissions and a reduced CO_2 emissions to close to CO_2 neutral levels.
