LEVERAGING TECHNOLOGY AND VENDOR RELATIONS TO EMPOWER END USERS

Collaboration between Templeton Global Research Library and Lexis/Nexis has produced an easy to use intuitive research tool that helps the analysts conduct searches faster and more efficiently. Express Search was rolled out to the users in December 2000 as planned and it was presented to the users as a holiday gift from the library. Group and individual demonstrations have been conducted, by the library staff, over the past three months in order to promote the product. Positive feedback has been received from a number of users although user participation has not yet achieved 100%. The library continues to work on educating the users on the benefits of using Express Search. Every opportunity, formal and informal, is used to demonstrate the simplicity and effectiveness of the tool. Product enhancements have been discussed with Lexis/Nexis. Plans for enhancements are based on user feedback and new ideas generated by the library staff and users. One of the first in the series of enhancement is inclusion of source description in the search forms to give the users a better understanding of the pre-selected sources.
