摘要

The fracture behavior of alumina for armor applications was evaluated using several impact velocities. The fracture surfaces were analyzed using a model based on competition between dynamic and quasi-static crack growth mechanisms. Alumina armor plates were evaluated by the free falling drop weight test. The average strain rate was 10_/sec. The samples were characterized by XRD, DWT, SEM and EDS. The results were analyzed by comparing the fracture mechanisms for different drop heights and, consequently, different impact velocities. An estimative of the impact pressure was made based on the impedance matching technique. The results suggest a linear relationship between the wave marks that appeared as a result of the stress wave and the associated impact energy.
