摘要

Within an experimental program the performance of KE penetrators with varying impact conditions was investigated. First, the penetration performance of structured rods into semi-infinite targets was determined. Second, the failure behavior of cylindrical rods against oblique single-plates was analyzed. For a better understanding of the details of the penetrator-target interaction numerical simulations were performed. The penetrator bending for inclined impact is an important process and thus the numerical analysis is extended to a detailed evaluation of bending moments, shear forces and normal forces in the KE projectile. The comparison of experiment and simulation provides information about the different failure mechanisms of the KE projectile.
