Synthesis of Multiperiod Heat Exchanger Networks Comprising Different Heat Exchanger Types

The following paper presents a mathematical formulation for the synthesis of heatrnexchanger networks (HEN’s), taking into account different types of heat exchangersrn(HE’s) and several conditions of operation. The model is developed using a disjunctivernformulation into a preexistent multiperiod model. The Multiperiod-Disjunctive-MINLPrnwas tested in an academic example comparing the results with the ones obtained withrnprevious multiperiod models. The outcomes show that the cost of the HEN synthesizedrnis greater than the one obtained with previous formulation, but a feasible operation inrnshell and tube HE, from the point of view of temperature crossing is guaranteed.
