In order to design a process that operates close to tighter boundaries safely, muchrnattention has been devoted to the integration of design and control, in which the designrndecisions, dynamics, and controlled performance are considered simultaneously inrnoptimal fashion. However, rigorous methods for solving design and controlrnsimultaneously meet challenging mathematical formulations which becomerncomputationally intractable. In an earlier paper of our group, a new mathematicalrnformulation to reduce the combinatorial complexity of integrating design and controlrnwas introduced. We showed that substantial reduction in the problem size can bernachieved by embedded control for specific process designs. In this paper, we extend thernembedded control to the plantwide process. This case will demonstrate the currentrncapabilities of the methodology with integrated design and control under uncertainty.
