In virtualization technology, cloud computing offers software, platform, and infrastructure as a service. The cloud offers services to the users is on-demand basis via the Internet. In the infrastructure cloud, efficient resource provisioning is a challenging issue. An efficient virtual machine (VM) placement algorithm can address this while maintains QoS in terms of satisfying users request within the deadline. In this work, we propose a new QoS-aware VM placement for infrastructure cloud, referred as vScale. The aim of the proposed algorithm is to minimize the service level agreement (SLA) violation penalty especially for users’ applications such as transactional and non-interactive applications. A clever migration strategy with minimum migration time is applied to manage VMs. Through simulation, we demonstrate vScale performs better than the existing algorithms in terms of various performance metrics.
