摘要

In this paper, a wide-beam planar antenna based on high impedance surface is proposed. It is demostrated that by using a mushroom-type high impedance surface as the antenna ground, a conventional dipole can realize a broad beamwidth as covering the entire upper hemisphere in the E-plane, which is totally different from the radiation pattern of the conventional dipole. Calculated results shows that the proposed antenna can realize a broad 3dB beam-width of 189 ° in the E-plane at 1.73GHz.
