Recent years the design of electrical equipment in aircraft in the part of electrical systems inclines to combining the functions of a starter system for generating electrical energy in one unit which was named the starter-generator. This solution allows improving mass and dimensions parameters and increasing reliability. This trend became especially apparent in connection with the implementation of the concept of a “fully electric aircraft” which led to a significant increase in the capacity and functionality of generators and devices for converting electrical energy into both primary and additional generation channels; in its turn, it made it possible to realize the motor (starter) mode using the generation channels. The article considers the possibility of realizing the motor operating modes of a three-stage brushless generator with a damper winding which allows it to be used as a starter in the process of starting a gas turbine engine. The relations to determine the duration of the first stage of starting the gas turbine engine are provided in the article.
