Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) is considered as the main obstacle which causes non-linearity at the receiving end through OFDM based channels. In this paper, we propose a new approach for PAPR reduction over powerline communication (PLC) based on the combination of μ-law companding and a novel clipping function. The new clipping process is introduced to remove out the impulsive noise generated over the electric wires and at the same time it is used to reduce the PAPR introduced through the OFDM based PLC. Then, a μ-law companding function is combined with the clipping function to add more robustness against impulsive noise and PAPR. Simulation results show the significant reduction in PAPR and bit error rate (BER) achieved using the proposed technique.
