Interactive educational Android mobile app for students learning Chinese characters writing

Mandarin language is one of the international languages widely spoken nowadays. Therefore many people are attracted and willing to learn the languages especially in learning how to write the Chinese characters. However, the traditional way of learning Mandarin gives some challenges in understanding the language. Traditionally, learning Mandarin occurred in the classroom where it involves the active participation of the instructor and the student can make the learning process successfully. However, to be more effective, student should adapt a self-learning concept where the teaching and learning can take place anytime, anywhere depending on the students' availability. This concept of learning is more flexible in terms of time and it encourages student to learn in a much fun way. Thus, the aim of this paper is to introduce and develop an educational android mobile application to help student learn and practice Mandarin characters easily and interactively. The application, “Hanzi Swype Learning” consists of several activities that can guide the student on how to write Chinese characters correctly and quickly. The application used the swipe application to achieve its target.
