The existing transmission lines may be replaced by DC links for constructing the lines more secure, economical and flexible. Thereby, in the present article, a DC link placement problem through the DC link equations with the conventional optimal power flow prospect is studied by using a new optimization technique called chaotic krill herd algorithm (CKHA). Sequential NR based AC/DC load flow method is being taken to solve this problem. The proposed CKHA algorithm is tested on the IEEE 30-bus test system. The effectiveness of the proposed technique is evaluated with some similar nature based evolutionary optimization techniques. The results of this work show that the proposed technique is very much effective to the stated problems.
