Comparative analysis of regulatory procedures for classifiying short-duration voltage variations

In 2014, the Brazilian National Regulatory Agency (ANEEL) proposed improvements to the Distribution Procedures (PRODIST) for national regulation on the electrical energy distribution network, with an aim to manage some power quality disturbances. This paper presents a comparative analysis between the categorization methodology of short-duration voltage variations in the existing ANEEL proposal and of that belonging to the NRS 048 from South Africa. Therefore, real measurement data from a Brazilian utility were used. The results obtained allowed the identification of benefits and limitations for each of the methodologies.
