This paper proposes maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) control and the active damping control of mono inverter dual parallel (MIDP) permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive system. MIDP motor drive system is one of the configurations for reducing the cost of the power conversion circuits. However, it is hard to apply the MIDP motor drive system to PMSMs due to the instability unlike the induction motors. In this paper, optimal current control strategy to minimize the current and the loss is proposed. The MTPA control is executed with not look-up table but real time calculation from the current informations. By minimizing the current, system efficiency can be enhanced. The control methods for MTPA and the active damping are proposed. The proposed control algorithm and strategy are verified through the experiments with 1kW motors.
