Dielectric properties of vegetable oil modified by monodisperse Fe3O4 nanoparticles

Various nanoparticles have been used to composite insulating oil based nanofluids and to improve electrical breakdown and thermal properties of insulating oils. The insulating nanofluids must meet requirements of both electrical property and dispersion stability of nanoparticles. In the work, monodisperse hydrophobicity FeO nanoparticles were synthesized by the high temperature decomposition method and were used to modify a type of vegetable insulating oil. The preparation and characterization of the vegetable insulating oil based nanofluid were presented. The experimental results show that the monodisperse FeO nanoparticles dissolve well in the vegetable insulating oil and form a stable nanofluid with high shelf life. The monodisperse FeO nanoparticles are capable of enhancing AC breakdown voltages of vegetable insulating oils.
