The Ocean on earth contains enormous energy,among which wave energy is generally considered as the most renewable one,therefore wave energy utilization technology becomes the hot spot of the ocean energy.Generally,wave energy generation is the main form of wave energy utilization.Big problems,however,block wave energy utilization due to the dispersal and variance of ocean wave energy.Through over 100 years’ investigation,it still turns out to be immature in large-scale ocean wave energy utilization technology,because a general agreement about the ocean wave energy utilization can’t be reached among investigators all over the world.Consequently,it is obvious that all those researches on wave energy utilization are in lack of a systematical and scientific theoretical guidance.The existing classification of wave power generation technology is diverse but not scientific,which cannot suitably guide researches of the wave power generation technology in the future.So it is so necessary to establish a scientific classification method.This paper figures out a classification method according to the forms of extracting wave energy by analyzing and investigating in the classical wave energy generation devices and more than 200 gathered patents.In consequence,the common problems which lie in such technologies are presented and the investigation of the wave power generation technologies can be better guided through these classification methods.In addition,more objective and scientific assessment can be also given to the existing wave power generation technology.As a result,all these provide the basis to the establishment of wave energy generation technology.
