The advances on miniaturization techniques and wireless communications have made possible the creation and subsequent development of the Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) paradigm. The main purpose of WSN is to serve as aninterface to the real world, providing physical information such as temperature, light, radiation, etc. to a computer system. The major difference between this type of networks and wired networks is their decentralized and specialized nature. In WSN, all its members collaborate towards the common goal of obtaining or deducing certain physical information from their environment. Moreover, WSN is capable of self-organization, thus it can be deployed in a certain context without requiring the existence of a supporting infrastructure. In this paper we proposed a general Three-Tier Security Framework (TTSF) for authentication and pair wise key establishment between mobile sinks and sensor nodes. The proposed scheme, based on the polynomial pool-based key predistribution scheme substantially improved network resilience to mobile sink replication attacks compared to the single polynomial pool-based key predistribution. This approach has been incorporated in our earlier protocol named as an Efficient and Secure Routing Protocol (ESRP). Extensive investigation studies using Glomosim 2.03 simulator show that the proposed scheme helps to achieve balanced energy consumption and increases the throughput.
