Calculating total wake effect of wind turbines in a wind farm is critical in estimating the total power losses due to the weakening of wind speed profile. The nonlinear behavior and sharp variation in both wind speed and wake coefficient experienced by each turbine as wind direction varies render the problem of calculating the total wake effect more complex. The aim of this paper is to apply Design of Experiment (DoE) methodology to develop a general model for wind speed experienced by wind turbine units in order to estimate the total wake effect in wind farms, taking into account the spacing between wind turbines, wind direction, wind speed, and blade radius. Comparative results from the developed model and existing analytical models show the effectiveness of the developed model using the DoE methodology.
