In order to study the diversity mechanism with different decaying type in bamboo, the components and morphology of Phyllostachys edulis, which was decayed by P.c (White-rot) and G.t (Brown-rot) for 12 weeks, respectively, were investigated by XPS method. XPS results showed that the content of C1 decreased and C2, C3 increased decayed by P.c, the disintegration rate of lignin was higher than cellulose and hemicellulose, at the same time, the guajacyl lignin (G) and syringyl lignin (S) were separated into carbonyl compound. However, the tendency of C1, C2 and C3 decayed by G.t and by P.c were reversed. The degradation ability of G.t to cellulose and hemicellulose was stronger than lignin. The degradation of bamboo decayed from Brown-rot was more seriously than from White-rot.
