Fast Fractal Image Encoding Based on Lifting Wavelet Transform

In this paper, we introduce a faster encoding algorithm based on the lifting wavelet transform that combines SPIHT coding and fractal technology. The encoding process of the traditional fractal algorithm is time consuming. Theproposed method codes the low pass sub band’s coefficients of wavelet transform by an improved fractal coding based on neighbor searching and a modified SPIHT coding on the remaining coefficients. The results of this method are obtained by several different images. The experimental results show that the proposed method can reduce the coding time, avoid the blocking effects, and get a better decoding image.
