If the actual relation of at least one wavelet coefficient is equal to a predetermined relation to the predetermined threshold value, the invention provides that the actual relation of each wavelet coefficient of the group (580, 590) to the threshold value is stored in order to obtain a significant word (600) for the group (580, 590) of wavelet coefficients. If the actual relation of each wavelet coefficient is not equal to the predetermined relation, the invention provides that the group (580, 590) is omitted.
