In this article, a new method for the determination of 8-hydroxyquinoline (8-HQ) based on water soluble multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) dispersed with hydrogen dihexadecylphosphate (DHP) was developed and the MWNTs-DHP film electrodes (MWNTs-DHP/GCE) were simply prepared by casting a certain volume of MWNTs-DHP suspension on the clean surface of glass carbon electrodes (GCE). Cyclic voltammetry and linear sweep voltammetry were used to investigate the electrochemical behaviors of 8-HQ at the MWNTs-DHP/GCE. This MWNTs-DHP/GCE had the merit of good stability and reproducibility, high sensitivity and selectivity. The linear range is wide: a good linear response over an 8-HQ concentration of 1.0×10-7 to 2.0×10-5 M was obtained. The detection limit is low to 1.0×10-8 M. The sensitive oxidation of 8-HQ at MWNTs-DHP/GCE was applied to the determination of 8-HQ in prepared sample by a standard addition method and the results were satisfied.
