The structure property of reverse micelles of AOT in heptanol has been investigated by fluorescence techniques. The emission property of 8-anilino-1-naphthalene-sulfonic acid (ANS) is found to be extremely sensitive to water content. The fluorescence intensity decreases with increasing water content while the position of the emission maximum (λmax) shifts to longer wavelengths. The fluorescence behavior is discussed from the viewpoint of the probe location in reverse micelles.
