ENGINEERED SANDWICH CORES FOR VEHICULAR BRIDGE DECKS

The paper will present technical results from recent applications of innovative-engineeredrncomposite cores for bridges and ground matting systems. The sandwich core designs are basedrnon patented Fiber Reinforced Cores (FRC) used in infusion molding process. Examples willrninclude a vehicular bridge deck recently installed in Summit County, Ohio and an airfield matrndevelopment program in which deployable panels placed on soft soil are subjected to highrnconcentrated wheel loads. Laboratory and field test data will be presented.
