High oil prices and concerns about future oil supply arernleading to a renewed emphasis on Enhanced Oil Recoveryrn(EOR), a group of technologies which can significantlyrnincrease the recovery factor of oil reservoirs. Some of thesernEOR technologies are currently producing substantialrnincremental oil; others have not yet made a commercialrnimpact. As all EOR processes are reservoir- and reservoirrnfluid-specific, it is necessary to identify the appropriate EORrntechnology for use in a reservoir, design the project to achievernthe required economic incremental recovery, and manage thernproject to meet or exceed expectations. This paper discussesrnhow to plan, design and manage an EOR project, proceedingrnfrom process selection through geologic analysis andrnmodeling, project economics, project design, pilot testingrn(when and if required), and project implementation andrnsurveillance. In each stage, key risks are identified, andrnactions to minimize those risks are given.
